I just had to share two of the pieces of writing that my students wrote. All of the text below was written by them, and I have not edited it. It’s rough in some places, but I’m pretty proud of this work. Enjoy!

We Need a Hero

            Years ago the city of Night Falls was a very happy and friendly place. Everyone was happy. Then for some reason people started to go missing. Night time comes, someone goes missing. First everyone thought everything was okay because it didn’t happen that often. Then it started to get out of control. Every night people went missing.

            Then it when on the news. The whole world started to talk about it. They called it an attack of the werewolves and vampires. Then the news people said that we all need a hero.

            One day an asteroid hits a man. Then he turns into a werewolf. He decides to be good. He needs to help Night Falls. He said I’m going to save this town from evil werewolves and from evil vampires with this power. With the power that turns him to the wolf.

            Later he decides to name himself Wolfy. He though it was a good name for a hero. He fights werewolves in hidden locations. He takes them and kill them with his powerful claws. Then all werewolves are eliminated. Now he just needs to get all the vampires. After that Wolfy gets all of them. First he knocks them out and burns them. They were really easy. Then he meets Vamp. Vamp is the strongest vampires. Wolfy finds Vamp. Boy they had a harsh battle. They smack each other and rough each other up. Wolfy got bitten and hurt a cople times. In the end he kills Vamp. Finally the town is safe again. Wolfy is a hero to the town of Night Falls. It is a friendly and safe place once again. 

The Glass Toy

            One morning, in a house, Rex played with his toys. He loved having his own toys. He played and played for a long long time until his little sister, Ruby came in.

            “Hey big brother,” said Ruby. “What are you doing?”

            “Just playing with my toys,” said Rex.

            “Well, can I play?” said Ruby.

            “Ok, but be careful with my old glass toy.”

            “Ok,” said Ruby.

            When they played Ruby broke a glass toy and that toy was Rex’s glass toy!

            “Uh oh-oh no I broke Rex’s glass toy,” she whispered. “Hmm? Maybe I should fix it.”

            “Fix what?” said Rex.

            “Oh, it’s nothing,” said Ruby.

            Soon Rex and Ruby had lunch at home. Rex had and apple and sandwich and so did Ruby. Ruby ate very nervously and looked very odd to Rex.

            “What’s wrong Ruby?” said Rex.

            “N-n-n-nothing,” said Ruby.

            “oooooookay?” said Rex.

            Ruby tried to eat fast and to get to the bedroom before Rex does. She knows he would be mad. When Ruby got in the bedroom she snatched the blue and tried to glue the toy properly. When Rex got in the room he was surprised and upset by what he saw in the room.

            Rex said, “Ruby! Why would you break my toy? I thought I told you to be carful with it. If you’re going to play with it!”

            “Yes, but I did not mean it,” cried Ruby.

            “You did so Ruby,” said, Rex. “Leave my stuff alone! And get out and stay out of my room!”

            When Ruby got out Rex slamed his door. Soon Ruby cried and cried and got upset. Mom and dad came.

            “Why are you crying?” said dad.

            “because I broke Rex’s glass toy and he kicked me out of his room when he did not know I-I-I didn’t me-ean it.”

            “well we will talk to him. Rex!”

            “coming,” said Rex, as he opens the door. “w-w-what’s going on dad?” said Rex.

            “Look at Ruby and tell us why she’s sad this instant!”

            “because I was mad at Ruby when she broke my old glass toy.”

            Mom said “Well, she didn’t mean it, so say sorry and let’s break this siuation up and I’m seirius yong man.”

            “ok mom,” sighed Rex. “I’m sorry,” said Rex to Ruby.            

            “I guess that’s ok with me,” said Ruby. “Now let’s play!”

            “Yay! Whoope!” said Rex and Ruby.

            When they played mom and dad came in and opened the door and said, “Let’s go to the store.”

            “Ok,” said Rex and Ruby.

            So they got dressed up and went out to the store. When they got to the store Rex and Ruby asked for a toy. Ruby and Rex chose a new glass toy. The toy only cost $4.99 and the other glass toy too. So they payed for it and went outside. When they got to their house Rex and Ruby threw away the old, broked glass toy and played with their new glass toys. Rex and Ruby were happy. Rex and Ruby were glad with there own new toys. 

There are still kids. New ones. Don’t worry, the stories are just as great…but I have two I think you’ll be hearing about more often than the others. Read on to find out:

I told my mom she should have given Pau Gasol my number (see previous post) when she met and took a picture with him last night. She admitted she should have and kept texting me that she was sorry she didn’t think of it right away.

BUT, don’t you think she should have made the connection immediately?
